For as long as most of us can remember, crowns, partials, and veneers were prepared by the dentist. First, an impression was taken and sent out to a dental lab. Most people are not very fond of the process of making the impression, especially those with a strong gag reflex. (No more yucky purple gunk for this!) The dentist would hope that they had gotten the impression on the first try, but that did not always happen.
After the impression was complete, a temporary restoration was made and everyone crossed their fingers that it did not come loose during the 2 weeks of waiting for the prepared crown or veneers. That was, unfortunately, not always the case though! The patient would have to then come in for an inconvenient second appointment and tolerate being anesthetized again for the placement of the crown. However, for patients who choose Dr. Rosenblatt at Forest North Dental, this is all a thing of the past!
We now offer the exciting opportunity to get your final restoration done in just one visit to our office using CAD/CAM technology. For those who have never heard of CAD/CAM, it stands for Computer Assisted Design/Computer Assisted Manufacture. The machine that performs this amazing procedure in our office is called CEREC. What this means for you is that you will no longer need to have a messy, foul-tasting substance in your mouth so that an impression can be taken of your teeth. That is now done digitally with a specialized camera and a reflective powder that is lightly sprayed onto the tooth by your dentist.
Forest North Dental patients will get their final crown in just one visit. You will no longer need to arrange your schedule to come back in, you also won’t have to worry about your temporary crown coming loose and falling out at some inopportune moment before your permanent crown is ready. Since it is done in one visit by the dentist, you will only need to be anesthetized one time. We use porcelain crowns, so they are highly esthetic. Certain things like bridges and gold crowns will still need to be sent to the lab, but in those cases we can still take the impressions with our specialized camera. It is a fantastic technology that was developed in 1986 and that we have been using since 2003.
As a committed dentist, Dr. Rosenblatt is privileged to be able to teach this technology to doctors from around the country. He also helps Beta test the software which allows him to stay on top of this field. Lake Forest is very lucky to have Dr. Rosenblatt and his high level of expertise in CEREC at its disposal! If you need this kind of dental work done, make an appointment with Dr. Rosenblatt today, you won’t be disappointed in the results!
